Eric Abraham presents a Fugard Theatre production of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

Multiple award-winning Theatre-maker Neil Coppen offers a ground-breaking South African reimagining of Shakespeare’s timeless text to premiere at The Fugard Theatre in the winter of 2020.

 
DATES

Artists need to be available from 15 June 2020 to no later than 10 October 2020. Further details to be confirmed.

Hamlet is a Cape Town based production and we will be auditioning artists who consider themselves to be Cape Town based at this stage. Should an artist from elsewhere wish to be considered, they do this in full knowledge of the home city, and should their audition be successful, they will be contracted accordingly.


BREAKDOWN

During this initial phase we are looking for a diverse range and multi-talented performers from 20 years upwards. All ethnicities will be considered for all roles. Performers should ideally:

•Have prior theatre experience / training;
•Prior experience in a Shakespearean production;
•As well as possessing a strong command of English, speak an African Language (this is not essential);
•We are looking for a range of performers, who over and above possessing a clear command of Shakespeare, are multitalented and multi-faceted performers. Some of the skills the Director is wanting to collaborate with includes actors who are singers, musicians (can be traditional), dancers, choreographers, poets, improvisers, innovators, physical theatre performers and theatre-makers.


AUDITION DETAILS

Auditions will be held at The Fugard Theatre in Cape Town on 5, 6 and 7 August and in Johannesburg on 8, 9 and 10 August (venue TBC). Artists submitted must be fully available on all three days in their respective city. We will also be accepting video submissions from artists who are unable to attend an audition. All videos are due no later than Wednesday 31 July 2019.

All artists must have a valid passport.

(If you are submitting multiple artists who need to be seen in different cities, please rather include their audition city in the body of the email.)

Deadline for CV submissions: Friday 21 June 2019 No late submissions will be considered.
 
Should your artists be successful in securing an audition you will be contacted via email no later than close of business on Wednesday 10 July 2019.
